چکیده
Introduction ECCO2R (extracorporeal dioxide carbon removal) is an extracorporeal decarboxylation technology described in 1978. Physiological studies showed that 50% of produced CO2 were eliminated. Potential indications are: ultra-protective mechanical ventilation (MV) for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and hypercapnic patients at risk of failure of noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Because of the lack of scientific evidence, ECCO2R is not available in the USA. Several trials are currently conducted in Europe.

Veno-venous extracorporeal CO2 removal for the treatment of severe respiratory acidosis: pathophysiological and technical considerations
INTRODUCTION While non-invasive ventilation aimed at avoiding intubation has become the modality of choice to treat mild to moderate acute respiratory acidosis, many severely acidotic patients (pH <7.20) still need intubation. Extracorporeal veno-venous CO2 removal (ECCO2R) could prove to be an alternative. The present animal study tested in a systematic fashion technical requirements for succe...
متن کاملA Retrospective Observational Case Series of Low-Flow Venovenous Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal Use in Patients with Respiratory Failure.
We aimed to describe the use of venovenous extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) in patients with hypercapnic respiratory failure. We performed a retrospective case note review of patients admitted to our tertiary regional intensive care unit and commenced on ECCO2R from August 2013 to February 2015. Fourteen patients received ECCO2R. Demographic data, physiologic data (including pH an...
متن کاملLow flow extracorporeal CO2 removal in ARDS patients: a prospective short-term crossover pilot study
BACKGROUND Lung protective mechanical ventilation (MV) is the corner stone of therapy for ARDS. However, its use may be limited by respiratory acidosis. This study explored feasibility of, effectiveness and safety of low flow extracorporeal CO2 removal (ECCO2R). METHODS This was a prospective pilot study, using the Abylcap® (Bellco) ECCO2R, with crossover off-on-off design (2-h blocks) under ...
متن کامل“Awake” ECCO2R superseded intubation in a near-fatal asthma attack
BACKGROUND Near-fatal asthma attacks are life threatening events that often require mechanical ventilation. Extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) is, beside extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a well-established rescue option whenever ventilation gets to its limits. But there seems to be very rare experience with those techniques in avoiding mechanical ventilation in severe ast...
متن کاملMedical error and its proceeding in French law
In French law, medical error proceeding has undergone many developments, and at present in this country a comprehensive medical compensation system is designed to address both patient rights and physician concerns about the costs of compensation. Contrary to traditional French law and the general classification of medical services in a public or private hospital, a new legal regime has been ado...
